About Gaucín & Casares        

Gaucín and Casares are two of the prettiest mountain pueblos in Spain.

Both have castles perched on top of limestone crags that make for a picture postcard scene.


Only minutes from the Costa Del Sol and the Costa Del Golf both villages are perfect for those who prefer a more tranquil evening ... unless its fiesta time! With winding narrow white washed streets, the villages are shining examples of the beautiful mountain pueblos found in the Serranía de Ronda.

The countryside (campo) between and around is some of the most beautiful in the world. With many Parque Naturals in the area.
The stunning Sierra de Crestellina rises between the two villages and the Genal and Guadiaro rivers flow down from the Serranía de Ronda towards the Mediterranean just a few km away. Handily placed for exploring inland Andalucia, the Costa del Sol, Gibraltar and even Morocco. Returning to the tranquil bliss of the mountains at night. The perfect place to live or to take a vacation.

With a fantastic choice of restaurantes and traditional tapas bars, both pueblos are popular destinations for holiday makers.

There are lots of things to do and places to visit.
In spring and autumn the area is a walkers paradise as the area is criss crossed with both official signed walks and tracks and trails some romantically said to have been used by local smugglers, ferrying contraband across the countryside.
Birding or bird watching is a popular pursuit. With resident populations of Griffon vultures and Bonelli's eagles as well as many migratory raptors.
Those with a more artistic flair are drawn to the area by the scenery, light and lifestyle. Gaucin especially has a many artists and writers living in and around the pueblo. exhibitions, open days and classes are all regular events here.
